Handyman and flat-pack assembly in Clacton-on-Sea

Home / Areas / Clacton-on-Sea / Handyman and flat-pack

Building a wardrobe is the same job anywhere. Getting it into the room isn't. Clacton's houses range from Victorian terraces to chalet bungalows, and the building often decides how we tackle a flat-pack or fixing job.

Terraces: stairs, landings and ceiling height

In the older terraces around the town centre, staircases are narrow and landings are tight, so a big wardrobe is built in the bedroom it's going in, not carried up in one piece. Ceiling height matters too. A tall wardrobe built lying down needs room to stand it up, so we measure before we start, and build it standing where the ceiling is too low.

Walls: old plaster, brick and plasterboard

Houses from the 1800s often have old plaster on brick or on timber laths, which can crumble around an ordinary wall plug. Post-war houses are more likely to have plasterboard, which needs a different fixing again. For curtain poles, shelves and wall straps, we find solid fixing points, use the right fixings for the wall, and tell you before we drill if a spot isn't safe to fix to.

Bungalows, chalets and holiday homes

Chalet bungalows can have sloping ceilings upstairs, which rules out some tall furniture, so check the height before you order. For holiday homes at Point Clear, and at Seawick near St Osyth, we can build beds and furniture, put up curtain poles and blinds, and sort a blown-down fence panel before the season starts.

Rentals between tenants

About one in five homes in Tendring is privately rented, and changeovers need jobs done quickly. We can build the furniture, put up the curtain poles and fix the small things in one booking.

Price

Flat-pack assembly starts from £75 for a single large item, such as a double wardrobe or bed frame. Other jobs are priced per job. Send us the product link or a photo and we'll come back with a price.

Questions

Can you check whether a wardrobe will fit before I order it?

Yes. Send us the product link and tell us the ceiling height and the width of the stairs, and we'll tell you whether it can be built where you want it.

Can you put a curtain pole up on an old plaster wall?

Usually. We find the solid points or use fixings made for old plaster, and tell you first if a spot won't hold.

Do you cover Holland-on-Sea and Jaywick?

Yes, and St Osyth and Point Clear too.

Can you fix a fence panel that's blown down?

Yes, if the posts are sound. If a post has rotted or snapped, we'll price replacing it.
