Walton-on-the-Naze
Walton sits next to Frinton, but the houses are a very different mix: older terraces, a lot of interwar housing, and a handful of bigger houses at the northern end of town.
How Walton was built
Modern Walton began with the Marine Hotel in 1829 and a first pier the following year. Peter Bruff, who later built Clacton, helped bring the railway in 1867 and built a new pier soon after. The High Street still has early 19th-century terraces and crescents, with more terraces added once the railway came.
To the north is a large area of mainly interwar terraced housing, with older terraces along Hall Road and Naze Park Road, and larger early 20th-century houses towards Naze Park and Old Hall Lane. South of the pier, interwar houses run between the railway and the South Cliffs, with beach huts along the promenade. Near Hall Lane is the site of an iron foundry from around 1874, with the workers' housing built alongside it.
What that means for the work
- Terraces: front gutters over the pavement, rear access through yards or alleys, and small back gardens that are quick to tidy but awkward to get waste out of.
- Tight parking in the older streets. Tell us if there's somewhere a van can sit.
- Bigger houses to the north that are more like Frinton's, with longer gutter runs and bigger gardens.
- Part of the town is in the Frinton and Walton conservation area, and the council has proposed extending it along the High Street.
What we do here
- Gutter cleaning and window cleaning
- Garden clearance and maintenance
- Handyman jobs and flat-pack
Questions
My terrace has no rear access. Can you still clear the back gutters?
Often, yes: through the house with dust sheets down, or from a neighbour's garden with their permission. We'll work it out with you before the day.
Can you paint or tidy up a beach hut?
Yes, painting and small repairs are the kind of job we take on. Check any rules your hut's site has about colours, or when work can be done, first.
Is there a travel charge to Walton?
Travel is built into the price we give you. It won't appear as an extra on the day.
